None of you undrstand my title do you? Seriously? You don't even have to understand the musical but the song has been on Glee so many times... wow. Ok then. Rude. For the vass majority of you who don't know, Defying Gravity is a song from the broadway musical 'Wicked'. Love it so much! For those of you who used context clues, yes we are talking about gravity! So let's dive in. Wait! Safety first.
Ok now that every one is safe let's explore gravity! Now what exactly IS gravity? I'm glad I pretended you asked! Gravity is a force pulling on all objects in the universe. I'm serious guys. Everything. As in the Earth, a dog, a tree, the moon, the Sun, and even you. Before you complain in my comments, no I did not just call you fat. Again, I'm accepting of all people shapes and sizes. =)
For example, is I drop a teddy bear off the roof of my house then it's gonna fall. Although it would be pretty awesome if it floated. Seriously a floating teddy bear, just think about that. So I trust you all remember Newton. No? You need a picture you say? Well sure. ^..^
Now do you remember them now? Just so you know I'm going to be using this a lot. If you read my blog post about him, then you remember me saying he had a miracle year. Well during said year an apple fell on his head and somehow he said "Wow this has to have something to do with how the planets work! OMG I have to write this down!" or something like that. Well that apple was being pulled by gravity and his gigantic head was in the way from it falling to the ground.
So another man had a giant influence on gravity is Galileo. Odds are you've heard his name but haven't ever seen his face so here ya go.
Catch ain't he? I don't know about you but to me, he looks very angry. I would be too, granted, if I worked ridiculously hard in science and all I get is my name featured in the Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Not that it isn't an awesome song... just sayin', give credit where credit is due.
So how exactly did Galileo Galilei (go on say it several times 'til it gets old, you know you want to) contribute to gravity and discoveries and all that jazz? Well there was once a philosopher named Aristotle and he thought heavier objects fell faster than lighter objects. Ol' Gal here decided to prove him wrong and everyone knows how great things go when you try to prove someone wrong in science. Basically this dude goes to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa with items of different sizes. Then he drops said items at the time and the same height. He then find out that he was right and Aristotle was wrong. You go Galileo! (Mean Girls reference there)
Wanna know something cool and slightly creepy? On the exact same day that Galileo died, Newton was born. My mind = Blown.
And just when you thought Newton was done being an over-achiever, he goes and contributes to gravity. Newton decided that gravity depends on two thing, mass (the amount of space an object takes up) and distance (that should be self-explanatory). The bigger the object, the stronger the gravitational pull. The farther away the object the weaker the pull.
Ok so let's go back to that whole fat concept.
In all seriousness, you aren't
fat because I hate you, you probably aren't fat at all. But if you think you are you should blame gravity. Why you ask? Because weight is actually the percentage of you that gravity is pulling on. There is a giant difference between weight and mass. See, if there is a tiny ball of steel and a large teddy bear, the ball of steel has more weight, but the teddy bear has more mass. So no you aren't fat because I hate you (which I don't) you're fat (or skinny) because GRAVITY hates you.
Gravity is very important in multiple ways. It may have kept George Clooney alive.... comment if you go that. But in all seriousness again, it is very important. It kinda lets us STAY on Earth, and I don't know about you, but I like the whole staying alive thing. So wherever you are remember
I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend! Mine was pretty awesome and interesting. I witnessed a 13 year old boy being mobbed at North Point. That was funny. It also made me lose all faith in humanity. But more funny. Anywho, all my info is from
here. All the picture either have hyper links or they're just a CTRL + Click away. Hope you learned something from me! I'm just gonna pretend that I'm not bothered by the fact that Newton has more voluminous hair than I do. Bye until next week! xx-G
