Frankin Roosevelt and Modern Day

So this blog post is going to be slightly depressing. Do you remember this guy?

Yeah, FDR, you know the old president during the Great Depression? Ok, let's just pretend you know. Anyway, as you may know, he died from the disease polio. So, what does polio have to do with modern day when people thought it was extinct? Because it's still a threat.

See, polio was extinct in the United States. Some parts of the world still have polio, like Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The spread of this disease can be spread through travel and insect mating. Vaccines and immunization is becoming more common because the epidemic is becoming more nessacary.

But what exactly is polio? Polio is a disease that can affect nerves and can lead to partial or full paralysis. Could you imagine what it would be like to not move your legs or even arms? It would be horrible.

Well, in the 1980s, polio killed and/or paralyzed about 350,000 people worldwide per year, but now this number has been greatly reduced. 407 cases were reported in 2013, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Polio vaccines can be given at particular doctor's offices.

Sorry, I know there wasn't a whole lot of personality in this... mainly because this was a more serious subject. Anywho, the Question of the Post is what do you think the most terrifying disease is? And on that happy note, here's the link.and all my pictures are a Ctrl+Click away! Have a great week! xx-G
