So everyone has a problem, you know, that one thing that bugs your mind and makes you go crazy? Yeah you know what I'm talkin' about!LOL, but seriously, I'm going to show you how to get rid of that problem. This process is called the scientific method, and before you go 'C'mon she's gonna give us some boring lecture about the steps of the scientific method that I've been told about several times by my weird science teacher that smells like coffee.' hear me out first.
Scientific method..... hmm ok, let's see if I can make this fun. I'll use a familiar scenario; annoying siblings. Let's say your diary was open and on your bed, but you left it in your nightstand. You may want to find out who read it right? I know I would... not that I have a diary... because that would be insane! *rubs neck nervously and chuckles*
First we need to identify your problem. Problem: Someone read your diary and you have no idea who did it. Now let's put your problem in the form of a question. Question: Who read my diary and left it on my bed? Good! Now we can move on to the next step.
Te second step of the scientific method is forming a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess. What's the info you are basing your hypothesis on? Let's just say the past. Your sibling always wants your stuff and steals from you, so you think your sibling did it. So, to recap, here is your hypothesis: I believe my little sister/brother read my diary and left it on my bed. See how I restated the question? That makes for good, solid answers!
Experiment time ladies and gentlemen! You guessed it! The next step is create an experiment. Here's what we are gonna do; we are going to take out our diary and leave it on your bed. Then you can hide a camera in your room and say that you are leaving to go to the mall or something. The camera will record anyone that goes into your room, and what they are doing in there. Don't have a camera? Just don't feel like going out? Hide in your closet! Trust me it works, I''ve done it with my sibling. Now that we have created our experiment, it's time to test it out!
Now, as much as you wish to get your sibling in trouble if you find out it's them, you can't just burst through the closet like a mental patient. Wait until they leave. Yes, that means f they get to the part about you crush on that dreamy high school jock that never notices you, or the part about how unfair you parents are, let them read it. Odds are they'll get in trouble if they announce it. Any who, next we need to analyze the data. Gather any evidence you can. This isn't Criminal Minds, so you don't need fingerprints, just bring the camera downstairs and show your parents the footage. If you hid in the closet, you should probably take pictures with your phone, which, now that I think about it, should have been stated earlier... whoops! Oh well...
Last but not least is communicating the results! This time you can go to your parents and say that he/she looked in your diary. They are going to ask for proof, so remember the pictures or video, that is key to punishing your sibling. Once they have proof, something will be done.
See? The scientific method was easy to understand! You just needed a little guidance right? Well I hope this helped you understand it with our virtual experiment type thing. Here are the steps again just in case you need a recap; State the problem, form a hypothesis, create and conduct an experiment, analyze data, draw a conclusion, and communicate the results. There ya go! Hope it helped! xx - G
